Dal 1991 è stato istituito il Parco Nazionale, il secondo in Italia per estensione e il più importante tra quelli che affacciano sulla costa mediterranea. Quest’angolo di Campania, compreso dal Golfo di Policastro e i rilievi dei Monti Alburni, è stato un punto d’incontro e scambio al centro del Mediterraneo fin dai tempi più remoti. Il continuo contrapporsi di culture nel corso dei secoli ne ha caratterizzato la storia: i Lucani delle zone interne e le colonie costiere della Magna Grecia
THE GREEN HEART OF CILENTO Uncontaminated coasts, mountainous reliefs, caves, gorges sinkholes, streams surrounded by large expanses of wood … perhaps this is what gives Cilento a special charm and a still uncontaminated aspect. The National Park was established in 1991, the second largest in Italy and the most important of those bordering the Mediterranean coast. This corner of Campania, including the Gulf of Policastro and the reliefs of the Alburni Mountains, has been a meeting and exchange point in the center of the Mediterranean since the earliest times. The continuous contrast of cultures over the centuries has characterized its history: the Lucanians of the inland areas and the coastal colonies of Magna Graecia
